Le Cordyceps, véritable allié de notre bien-être
  • What is Cordyceps?

Cordyceps, also known as Cordyceps sinensis, brown gold (due to its color), or caterpillar fungus (due to its shape), can measure between 5 and 10 cm. It generally grows on the high Tibetan plateaus, at altitudes ranging from 3000 to 5000 meters.

Harvested between April and June, it parasitizes butterfly larvae in the autumn and feeds on the flesh of the caterpillars, whose outer covering it retains until winter. While the habits of this fungus may seem like something out of a horror film, its adaptogenic capabilities are nonetheless interesting: it helps our bodies regain balance where needed.

In partnership with producers in Quebec, MushUp incorporates Cephalosporium sinensis, with its many beneficial properties, into its products.

  • Why consume it: its benefits

Consumed for centuries, cordyceps boasts a (very) large number of nutrients – get ready, the list is long! It is particularly rich in cordycepin, which acts as a bactericide and antitumor agent, adenosine, beneficial for digestion and heart rhythm regulation, and mannitol, a diuretic. It is also an excellent source of minerals, notably copper, zinc, potassium, calcium, magnesium, selenium, and manganese. Want more? This fabulous mushroom contains numerous amino acids, a significant amount of protein, vitamins (E, B1, B2, B12, and K), essential fatty acids, as well as saccharides, polysaccharides with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, peptides, and sterols.

This parasitic fungus also possesses interesting therapeutic properties. As an antioxidant, it helps the body fight infections and strengthens the immune system. It is known to have a positive impact on physical performance: providing good support during physical exertion, it improves endurance and promotes muscle growth.

Its anti-inflammatory properties give it an effect on bronchitis and asthma by reducing inflammation of the respiratory tract. It is also considered a good regulator of bad cholesterol.

It is also used in the prevention of cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

As an added bonus, it is used as a general stimulant: it has a beneficial effect on libido and acts as an anti-fatigue agent in cases of asthenia.

Finally, and this is one of its greatest strengths, cordyceps contributes to nervous system balance. In this sense, it has an anti-stress effect and is a good ally in cases of depression or burnout. It helps you regain lost motivation and combat insomnia and anxiety. This mushroom is a true revitalizer!
